Dr Weeval approaches his secret lair.

Time to see how the construction work is progressing.

Marnak (2) ...the attack on the compound ...

The authorities are in position for ready to attack Dr Weevils compound .... at 22.00hrs

It was now dark, all the lookouts were in place around Dr Weevil's compound....

The two squads of Egyptian police had got into position (without being detected)...

The British (some in local garb) were in position, some had crept across the road undetected and were close to the compound entrance....

The British rushed the compound entrance ...

At the sound of the gunfire, the Egyptian police broke into the compound via the side and back gates in the wall ....

The British were taking casualties but gaining ground ...

The Egyptian police squads moved in as quickly as they could, drawing fire away from the British attack on the entrance ...

Awoken from his slumber by the gunfire, Dr Weevil came up onto the roof "What's all this frickin noise ! I'm trying to sleep .."

The fighting continued, the arrival of the Egyptian police had swung things in favour of the attackers..

They were soon into the slow work of clearing the buildings, as some of Dr Weevils men slipped away into the darkness..

The compound was nearly secured and they were mopping up, they hadn't found Dr Weevil...

Dr Weevil had quietly slipped out a window into the street with some of his men....

and was carefully making his way westwards pass the compound entrance..

Kit Campion and Captain Pollock who'd been standing by the fountain saw Dr Weevil and shouted out to the others in the compound, Ruffles the dog ran forward ...

Dr Weevil and his escort turned as Ruffles ran towards them barking ...

Shots were exchanged (nobody was hit), Dr Weevil and his two cronies turned and ran down the street, another of his men jumped out from the shadows getting in the way of Campion and Pollock; a scuffle ensued and he fell over with Ruffles the dog chewing on his leg....

Dr Weevil and his men ran off into the darkness, he was followed but they lost sight of him in the dark...

Dr Weevil and his men made their way through the ruined temple ...

They peered into the gloom, but could see nothing, in the distance they could hear the engine noise of something moving down river, the officer said to Kit Campion "We've lost him - next time we'll get him ...."

Dr Weevil and his men had made their escape .. on launches down the river..

Marnak (1) ... into position ...

The authorities have made preparations to attack Dr Weevil's compound in Marnak; they will move into position in the late evening and will make their move under the cover of darkness....

In Dr Weevil's compound men are busy loading trucks...

Dr Weevil checks on the progress of loading up the trucks.. they be finished shortly - on schedule to leave first thing in the morning...

Lookouts takes their positions on the roofs of the compound's buildings.....

Later in the evening as light starts to fail; just arrived outside the east gate are some armed Egyptian police.

The detachment of British regulars from the signalling outpost in the old fort is ready to move (accompanied by Kit Campion and Captain Pollock)...

Captain Smythe and his undercover squad have gathered by the north gate

The light is slowly fading and it will soon be dark; Smythe's crew and the British regulars have moved to the market square opposite the entrance to the compound...

The Egyptian police are slowly moving into position ......

they should be there in time ...

A spotting in Marnak ....

While some tourists were admiring the ruined temple of amun-re on the outskirts of Marnak...

Kit Campion and Captain Pollock were saying goodbye to one of their old friends..

As they were about to go down to their car, Kit looked across to a nearby building and saw someone that was thought to be dead - Dr Weevil....

Kit Campion and Captain Pollock headed over to the small British outpost in the old fort to report their sighting ...

The commanding officer told them that they knew Dr Weevil was in the town, they would try and capture him this evening - there were welcome to stay and be in on the action ...
